Betfair has completed a move away from running it’s own independent poker site to becoming part of the larger OnGame Network.
The transition looks to have gone smoothly, with Betfair players now fully intergrated into the OnGame platform, which is owned by B.Win.
The move should see a bigger range of cash games and deeper tournaments for Betfair players. The online betting exchange has had quite a heavy poker presence in the past, sponsoring the World Series of Poker Europe and also backing leading player Annette Obrestad – the Norweigan is now a Full Tilt player.
Betfair is also offering a bonus to new players in their first month to encourage them to settle down with the new software. American players are not allowed on OnGame and significantly, it has promised to honour any rakeback deals its players have.
In the past, Betfair was part of the Cryptologic group of poker rooms, before that software brand disappeared. With tournament numbers and guarantees declining, the move by Betfair looks a pragmatic decision, though its always rather sad to see individual poker software dying out.
