Andy Frankenberger won his first World Poker Tour Title as he claimed the Legends of Poker Tournament at the Bicycle Casino in California.
The American pocketed a $750,000 first prize for his efforts for the $5,000 buy in event which attracted 462 runners, in only his second WPT tournament.
Frankenberger played well despite admitting to nerves about having his hole cards revealed to the TV audience. New Yorker Frankenberger was chip leader going into the final table and had been attacking for most of the tournament having picked up a large stack he found life more difficult as he went card dead for a long spell.
It’s a second major win for Frankenberger, who took down one of the Venetian Deep Stack $2000 events during the WSOP to win $162,110.
Kyle Wilson, a former final tabler at this event, finished runner up, when he got in with A3 v Frankenberger’s A9. Though he flopped a diamond flush draw he bricked out to take home $370,000.
1st: Andy Frankenberger - $750,000
2nd: Kyle Wilson - $370,000
3rd: Tom Lee - $174,772
4th: Tom Braband - $109,000

The event also saw Daniel Negreanu take advantage of a WPT interview with Kimberley Lansing to apologise for using the term c*** in reference to Annie Duke in a magazine interview. Negreanu has not concealed his dislike of Duke after their opening encounters, many years ago, on the live poker scene.
He told WorldPokerTour.com: “The c-word is a bad word, you don’t say that to women. So if women were offended by the c-word and my use of it my apologies. It was not meant to be in print.”
The next stop for the WPT is London on August 30th.
